Brett Stell
Born: October 27, 1957
Raleigh, North Carolina
I was the only child of "Red" and Sue Stell. My dad was a
Raleigh Fire Fighter and my mom was a receptionist for a dental office
in Raleigh. I began playing golf at the age of 12, but my entire
life was centered around athletics. I began playing Little
League Basketball and Baseball at the age of 9 and when I was 12, I
won the Raleigh competition for Pitch Hit and Throw and also the NFL
competition for Punt ,Pass and Kick. I went to Raleigh Enloe
High School where I played Football, Basketball, and Baseball.
After high school graduation in 1976, I moved on to Guilford College
where I played baseball for Stuart "Rock" Maynard, the last of the
fighting Quakers! After Graduating from Guilford, I went to work
with Guilford County Schools and was a teacher and coach at Western
Guilford High School for 31 years. While at Western Guilford, I
taught 14 different courses, coached basketball, baseball, and
football, and also served as the Assistant Athletics Director for 6
years. As the baseball coach, I was lucky enough to coach some
really wonderful players and we won the NC State Championship in back
to back years, 1984 and 1985. I have been married for 40 years
to my high school sweetheart, Linda, and we have 2 sons and 4
grandchildren.
